Today marks 8 years since Join Dementia Research was launched to match volunteers with suitable dementia studies.

Through Join Dementia Research, people can see what dementia research is taking place, both in their local area and across the UK.

Here are just a few of the highlights we are celebrating from the past year:

  • Join Dementia Research volunteers took part in a study to help discover lecanemab, the first drug to slow cognitive decline in people with early signs of Alzheimer’s disease
  • The service reached 60,000 volunteers
  • More than 9,000 Join Dementia Research volunteers took part in the ‘The Global Brain Health Survey’, which revealed that nine in ten people would take a test to learn about their risk of developing a brain disease and change their lifestyle to try to prevent it
  • A Scottish study which recruited participants through Join Dementia Research published their findings on the effects of the dementia diagnosis and consultation processes during the COVID-19 pandemic
  • Former Prime Minister Boris Johnson launched a national mission to tackle dementia in memory of the late Dame Barbara Windsor

Help us celebrate by posting on social media using the hashtag #JDRbirthday.

Thank you to all our volunteers, carers, healthcare professionals, charity partners and everyone in the Join Dementia Research community for making this another positive year for dementia research.
