Join Dementia Research and Dementia Friends
As a Dementia Friend, one of the ways of turning your understanding of dementia into action, is by registering your interest in dementia research.
Join Dementia Research is a service which allows people to register their interest in participating in dementia research and be matched to suitable studies.
What kind of research could you get involved in?
Taking part in a research study can take many forms depending on the type of research, from surveys to observational studies and research from your own home. There are over 80 studies currently looking for volunteers through Join Dementia Research. They are looking for people with dementia, for carers and for people without dementia too.
Without committing yourself to any particular research study, signing up allows you to be matched to suitable studies, and decide on a case-by-case basis if you would like to take part in those studies or not.
You can sign up online or by calling Alzheimer’s Society Helpline on 0300 222 1122.

You can also sign up for someone else
Some volunteers with dementia may need support to register. You can therefore sign up for someone else, providing it’s in their best interests. You then act as their representative and can opt for contact from researchers to come to you if that is more appropriate.
If you have any questions about this, you can call the Alzheimer’s Society Helpline (0300 222 1122) and ask to speak to a member of the Join Dementia Research team.
Help us spread the word
Many studies have very specific criteria, so we need a big pool of potential volunteers to find the right people. So please do tell your friends and family about Join Dementia Research.
