The ‘ACDC’ Study is the very first study that hopes to reduce hallucinations that can occur as part of Lewy Body dementias.

Aims of the Study

People who have Lewy body dementia, either Parkinson’s disease dementia or dementia with Lewy bodies, can have hallucinations.
These hallucinations are often visual and may be disturbing for patients. The AC-DC study is the first treatment study aimed at reducing hallucinations.

The treatment is transcranial direct current stimulation. This is a safe treatment. It can alter the level of activity in the brain.
The use of transcranial direct current stimulation in this study is to reduce activity in the ‘visual’ part of the brain and so lessen the chances of hallucinating.

Get Involved

Volunteers must be over 60, with probable Dementia with Lewy Bodies or Parkinson’s Disease with Dementia, and a history of hallucinations.
They also need a ‘study partner’, a friend or relative who can accompany the volunteer in research.
