This is a cross post with NIHR Clinical Research Network: South West Peninsula

8-230x170Inspirational and informative was the resounding feedback about a free public Dementia Research event hosted in Devon by the NIHR Clinical Research Network for the South West Peninsula and Alzheimer’s Research UK.

Over 100 people attended the ‘Research is hope in dementia’ event. The aim was to raise awareness about local dementia research activity and the opportunities for patients, carers and the public to get involved and take part in studies.

Organisers hope the event will boost the Join Dementia Research service which allows people to register their interest in national dementia research and be matched to studies. There are currently 857 people from the South West registered with Join Dementia Research.

9-DCW-edit-230x170The full day programme included a question & answer session, a snapshot of current research studies being conducted in the region, a patient experience film and workshops. The Plymouth ‘Singing for the Brain’ choir received a standing ovation at the end of their moving performance.

Delegates travelled from East, South and West Devon to attend the event at Buckfast Abbey Conference Centre.
