I Am Research logoThe annual NIHR I Am Research campaign, aims to encourage patients, carers and the public to get involved in research. The campaign is also seeking to raise awareness and involvement in research among health and care professionals.

For 2018, the campaign celebrates the NHS’s 70th birthday (NHS70). The national NHS70 campaign, led by NHS England, is focusing on how the public can ‘give a present’ for the NHS’s birthday on 5 July and leave a legacy after the celebrations are over. The NIHR is leading on one of NHS70’s seven themes: asking the public to take part in health research.

The NIHR is marking the campaign with events at hospital trusts and NIHR infrastructure across the country, on and around International Clinical Trials Day on Sunday 20 May. The events are an opportunity for patients, carers and the public to speak to healthcare professionals about research and how they can get involved to help shape the next 70 years of the NHS.

Research supports the NHS imageTo tie in with the NHS’s 70th birthday, the campaign will celebrate how research has improved health and care over the past 70 years and how NIHR research is helping to shape the future. As part of this, the campaign will showcase 70 discoveries that have transformed the way the NHS works and outcomes for patients, and highlighting seven research legends whose findings have transformed care in our health service.
