On tour to fight dementia
Join Dementia Research is hitting the road with a tour bus around the West of England to tell the public about how volunteers can support the fight against dementia. The aim is to reach 1000 local registrations to Join Dementia Research by Christmas.
Vital studies into early diagnosis, prevention and new treatments for dementia are making progress but more volunteers are needed to ensure this continues.
Services have joined together to collaborate and lend their support for the bus, including NHS Trusts, local and national charities, as well as volunteer champions, who will be on hand to distribute leaflets and encourage members of the public to sign up. Fun activities alongside balloons, cakes, mince pies and children’s games should attract passers-by.
Look out for the team between 10am -3pm on:
Monday 7th December – Stroud (King Street)
Tuesday 8th December – Weston-Super-Mare (Pier)
Thursday 10th December – Swindon (Orbital Asda)
Friday 11th December – Bristol (Callington Road Tesco)
Charlie Procter, NIHR Clinical Research Network: West of England and Jane Makin, Avon & Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust have been organising the tour. Charlie, Project Officer, comments: “We’re really looking forward to taking the Join Dementia Research message out into the community and we have had fantastic support so far from partner organisations, including the retail sector. We’re on a mission to boost volunteer numbers – let’s hope we can tap into the Christmas spirit!”
