D24 Days Meme V1id you know healthy volunteers are also needed on ‘Join dementia research’ studies?
Today, as part of the #24DaysOfDementiaResearch we take a look at a study looking to recruit twenty people who do not have dementia.

How does it work?

The Neuroinflammation and Amyloid study will be taking an indepth look at exactly what happens to the brain in the earliest stages of Mild Cognitive Impairment, a condition which can develop to full Alzheimer’s Disease in 10-15% of cases.

Researchers believe that the proteins causing inflammation of the brain could be a major cause of the damage from dementia, and they suspect they will find these proteins in people at a very early stage of this process.
If they are right, this will be a valuable opportunity to learn about diagnosing Alzheimer’s Disease much earlier, about how it works, and potentially how it can be treated.

Scans of the brain, as well as samples of blood and other fluids, will be made on all the volunteers – the healthy, those with Mild Cognitive Impairment, and volunteers who have Alzheimer’s Disease.
These results can then be compared to see the development of the condition at all stages.

Get Involved

‘Join dementia research’ is seeking volunteers who have a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s Disease, Mild Cognitive Impairment, or no condition. They will be between 50 and 85 with at least eight years of education.
